MoneyPrinterTurbo: An Honest Test of a Free AI Video Generator

Automations · August 27, 2026 · Evgenia Skakunova · 4 min read

The tool promised to make a short video from a single command: script, voiceover, subtitles and editing, all on its own. I decided to check it live, on my own topic, rather than by the repository description, and to write down honestly where everything really is free and where I had to stop and configure something by hand.

What the tool is

MoneyPrinterTurbo is an open repository, github.com/harry0703/MoneyPrinterTurbo, MIT-licensed, with 116.7 thousand stars at the time of checking. It landed on GitHub Trending in two categories at once: the overall weekly top and the Python top. The promise is simple: you enter a topic or keyword, and the output is a short vertical video with a ready script, voiceover, subtitles and matched footage.

For the test I took the topic "5 ways to save time with AI" and ran the whole process from start to finish.

What worked for free right away

The tool wrote the script through the free provider Groq in one to two seconds. It produced the voiceover through the free Edge TTS. Subtitles appeared automatically and lined up with the speech straight away. At this stage everything really is free and fast, with no sign-ups or subscriptions.

First surprise: the default voice is Chinese

Then I hit a bug. The default voice is Chinese, zh-CN-XiaoxiaoNeural. On Russian text it silently cut the voiceover down to 2.7 seconds instead of the full text, with no error and no warning. It just quietly produced short, truncated audio.

It was fixed by setting a Russian voice explicitly in a separate parameter. In control runs after the fix, the voiceover came out fine, 27 to 45 seconds depending on text length, with no cutting. If I hadn't listened to the result and had simply trusted the tool, I would have moved on with truncated sound and not understood why.

Second surprise: assembly needs your own stock-footage key

At the step of assembling the finished video, the process stopped. To pick footage, MoneyPrinterTurbo asks for a personal key from a stock service: Pexels, Pixabay or Coverr, your choice. There's no built-in free video source inside the tool, and registration with an outside service is required.

I registered with Pexels, which took about a minute and stayed free. With the key, assembly went on right away and finished with no further stops.

What came out

The finished video for the final run topic, "5 ways to save time with AI": vertical 1080×1920, 26.6 seconds long, shorter than the control runs above because the script for this topic came out more compact. Voiceover and subtitles are in place and in sync, and the picture is built from real stock clips matching the script's topic.

Who it suits and what to keep in mind

The tool works and is genuinely free in money terms. But there's no single "press and done" button here: there's a voice parameter you have to set explicitly, and an outside key you have to go get separately. Both are solved once, during first setup, and after that repeat runs go faster.

It suits people who want to assemble a draft short video on a topic with no camera and no editing experience, and are ready to spend five to ten minutes once on setting the voice and getting a free key. It doesn't suit those who expect a finished clip without a single technical step: that won't happen here.

If you've already tried making a video without a camera another way, I have a separate breakdown of the manual route: 5 free steps to a finished video without a camera.

Bottom line

MoneyPrinterTurbo takes script writing, voiceover and subtitle selection off your plate, but it doesn't remove the need to work out a couple of settings and get one free key. The tool is equally available to everyone, and the difference comes from what you build around it: the topic, the regularity, where the finished clip leads next.
